Our Best Marketing Tool

Smiling Permitted

Graphic tees are super trendy right now. We are drawn to their words because they are silly or funny, accurately reflect our personality or interest, or see them as a conversation starter amongst friends or even strangers. When we put one on, it becomes a part of our brand. But it is definitely not our best marketing tool.

This week, one of my yogis wore a tee with a short, but powerful saying on the back…Smiling Permitted. It reminded me that a simple smile could start a trend.

"Your smile is your logo, your personality is your business card, how you leave others feeling after having an experience with you is your trademark."

-Jay Danzie

Smiling is a mood game changer.

When we smile, our brain interprets the movements of our face muscles, which in turn triggers the release of happy signals, or endorphins. Endorphins help lower stress levels. They also act as natural pain relievers – so next time we get knocked down, it is best to just smile it off.

Smiling is contagious.

Flashing a smile to someone else typically provokes one in return. On a bad day, a smile could be as fulfilling as a verbal compliment. Even smiling in phone conversations makes us sound friendlier. Somehow it translates into our voice to make us sound upbeat and engaging. If we carry ourselves as playful, positive, peaceful people, it will rub off on others as they subconsciously mimic our behavioral patterns.

Smiling is a universal sign of happiness.

Other things such as language can create barriers, but one common facial expression opens the door to joy no matter what. Smiling makes us appear more confident, attractive, and approachable. Challenging situations become easier when smiles are shared.

Marketing of our personal brand starts with our smile. Just like our favorite graphic tee, we should wear it proudly. So smile everyday…eventually the trend may catch on.
