Growing Pains

Today And Tomorrow

With each passing day we change. We continue to move closer to what we will become when we “grow up.” Often times we think that means putting a label on ourselves. I label myself designer, yoga teacher, daughter, sister, friend, and wife-in-training. I hope to become a wife and a mother. But the growth is bigger than this.

Remember…change is defined by our thoughts and actions, regardless of the label.

Today we can grow more bitter, more hateful, more scared. Or tomorrow we can become more generous, more kind, more confident. We can be more thoughtful in our exchanges – more considerate in conversation, more informed in arguments, more careful in commitments.

The high road is not always easy, but neither is growing up.

"If we don’t change, we don’t grow. If we don’t grow, we aren’t really living."

-Gail Sheehy

The change will never happen all at once. We can intentionally choose to be optimistic, or we can gradually fall to a place of darkness. As we make difficult decisions to build a life and live it, we continue to add and subtract. We have been doing it since we were young. Day after day we let go of emotions, relationships, even tangible things we do not need. We create space and welcome new ideas.

What do you want to be when you “grow up”? We always have a choice to become something else…be open to the possibilities of change.
