The Making Of A Bourbon Bash

Surprise!

When I celebrated the big 3-0 last year, Brad made it extra special. He surprised me with a getaway to Nemacolin Woodlands Resort where we enjoyed plenty of good eats, pampering, and relaxation. As if it was not enough, a few days later we went out for a supposed birthday dinner with my best friend, Kelly and her husband, Rob – only to my surprise it was a party with lots of family and friends at one of my favorite restaurants in Annapolis, Level. He outdid himself. How the heck would I ever live up to it for his 40th? I had a year to figure it out…

Three things to know about Brad:

1. He loves bourbon, a lot.

2. He does not love being the center of attention, at all.

3. He loves traveling and trying new things even more than a lot.

Obviously, a big party was out of the question. So, that left bourbon, travel, and new things. I knew exactly what I wanted to do. After months of research, planning, and creating, I am excited to share how we will celebrate – and doubly excited to stop worrying about covering my tracks on syncing calendars, email, and travel apps (take that, iCloud!).

Brad’s 40th Birthday Bourbon Bash is on!

Yesterday, exactly one month before Brad turns the big 4-0, I let him in on my best kept secret – we are headed to the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. Surprise! Take a look inside what I am calling “Brad’s Basket O’Bourbon” and how I told him about the trip...

A personalized mini bourbon barrel and decanter, along with a “Whiskey Business” graphic tee.

Vanilla Bourbon Popcorn and some bottles from stops along the trail.

My opinion is a little biased, but the most special piece in the basket is the booklet-style guide I curated and designed outlining all the details of our 4-day bash traveling from Louisville to Lexington. A few pre-planned highlights include a stay at 21c Museum Hotel, dinner at 610 Magnolia, and a tour and tasting at Woodford Reserve Distillery. With about a month until we leave, Brad can add distillery visits or activities of his choice to the trip, too. Meanwhile, I will be casually sipping bourbon working up my taste and tolerance for Kentucky’s finest.

Bourbon Bash recap coming at the end of February…cheers!
