There's Always A Reason
There is something magical about remembering a truly wonderful dream. The memory of it makes you smile, you dig a little deeper to decide how it applies to real-life, or maybe it gives you the answer to a burning question you can’t stop asking yourself.
On February 7th 2016, I remembered one of those dreams.
I was supposed to start Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) in September 2015. I registered at the start of summer bought all of the books, began reading the first one while enjoying a beach vacation, and built my excitement about my upcoming journey. But a week before class was intended to start I received a disappointing email. Only three students had registered, and a minimum of six was required. I had to wait until March 2016.
I was so bummed. I was looking forward to going into the New Year fresh out of YTT, getting my certification, and hopefully starting to teach on my own. Of course, the planner in me had a minor freak-out.
Yet, I am a firm believer of everything happens for a reason.
My dream of becoming a Yoga Teacher went hand-in-hand with a dream of becoming a blogger. I had spent the months since registering for the 2015 YTT keeping a notepad of blog names. Because as any designer knows, brand is important. But nothing ever seemed perfect.
Here’s the random, crazy part – it happened while making black bean hummus to take to a Super Bowl party get-together at my parents’ house. I remembered THAT DREAM; my burning question was answered. I literally started jumping up and down, emphatically yelling to Brad, “I have a blog name!”
Peace of Burlap was so perfect…my brand was born.
"Once in a while, blow your own damn mind."

As noted, I am a lover of all things rustic. A definitively rustic fabric, burlap is woven together by many different threads and so are we – by our interests, values, and talents. My piece of burlap is woven with love, happiness and creativity.
In all its charm, burlap is multi-purpose. It can be crafted into a sack, a pillow, a spool of beautiful ribbon, just to name a few. Nothing about the brand was limiting. I could include my design work, my love of yoga, my personality…any and all of my threads.
Not only was the name right, the time was right. The very next day, on February 8th, I officially purchased my domain and started creating Peace of Burlap. I was set to release my site and first blog post on March 8th – the first day of 2016 YTT. I had a month to pour my heart and soul into it. I began the logo design and the vision came to life.
I had to wait six extra months for YTT. Peace of Burlap was the reason.
