Creativity Is Icing On The Cake

Sprinkles Of Personalization

Surprise! You’re Invited! Come Celebrate! Opening your mailbox and finding an invitation always brings excitement. The person it honors is someone special in your life and they cannot imagine having their big event without you. But something makes one invitation stand apart from all the rest. A personalized theme or concept makes it memorable.

It’s Throwback Thursday…

Let’s go back to 2013, and one of my favorite party themes. I waited twenty-four years for it. My best friend, Kelly, was getting married, and as Maid of Honor, I was planning her Bridal Shower. She had been dating her fiancé, Rob, for almost a decade. Needless to say, I had A LOT of time to think about making the event personal.

When we were kids, her bedroom was blue. When we were teenagers, her car was blue. When she got engaged, no doubt her wedding color was going to be blue. The theme, obviously…”Something Blue.” It was almost too good to be true. Her married name would be Bird.

Inspired, I designed an invitation with a bride holding a little bluebird. Our friendship was something old. The shower gifts would be something new. Wine bottles served as vases for table centerpieces, and something borrowed. Guests were asked to wear their favorite something blue. To carry on the concept, everyone tested their knowledge with a quiz on wedding traditions. Monogramed champagne glasses – complete with a bluebird, of course – doubled as tickets to the mimosa bar and shower favors. The completed look included custom banners and signs to match the invitation, framed photos of Kelly and Rob, and a blue candy bar…bonus, something sweet.

It's time to be creative…

Shhh, don’t blow it! But first, champagne!

Send a custom invitation with a fun greeting. Build excitement.

Dress to impress.

If it’s appropriate, carry the theme through to the party attire for the honoree, hosts or even the guests.

Set the mood.

Decorate with personalized banners and signs pulling design cues from the invitation. Add a game or activity if it makes sense.

Eat, drink, and be merry.

Make up names for each dish or recipe reflecting the theme. Consider serving a signature drink.

Say “Thanks!”

Send guests off with a small token of appreciation. Add a special tag or sticker to personalize it. Even better if the favor itself fits the theme.

I just opened my mailbox to find a request for a new party concept. I am so excited to begin designing for one of my best customers and friends. From the invitation and outfits, to the décor and activities, to the food and favors, this party will be a “Wild ONE.”

Make it memorable. Be the reason guests come and go with a smile. Whether it is a shower celebration, a milestone birthday, or even a dinner party, personalize it…frost it with creativity.
